saturday with liz face

| | | 1 comments
after the museum, the weather got rather dreary
the skies cleared up enough that we wandered around the temple
waiting for mal

 mal was taking too long
so lizerbeth and i took it upon ourselves to head to mellow mushroom
our hunger and impatience turned a full plate of pita/hummmus
and pretzels to almost nothing in about a minute
since high school days of mellow mushrooom hump-night trivia,
i've always been a fan of their hummus

how ladies eat pizza

i am a new fan of THE CAESAR!

a good day.

may 20th.
i did have a nice birthday.
24 years down!
we went downtown to eat
and saw the new pirates of the carribbean
in 3-D on IMAX - go big or go home, right?
dave and pete were there too.
i didn't take like ANY fotos of the evening
shame on me.
but thankyou to those who made my day not so ordinary.

the garden is sprouting up!!
(the sweet pototoes)

the maters are almost perfect for
fried green tomatoes!!
mmmmm...

the romas and cherries

the "still to be planted" ones

i wanted some BIGsunflowers in the veggie garden
a while back i planted some seeds in cups for starting
and once they were a few inches tall, transplanted them into the garden.
well, some d a g u m  b i r d s ate them.
chomped the leaves & stem, to NADA!
uuuuuurgh!
so i planted some more.
i noticed a couple barely poking up through the soil
and made a mental note to make some "cages" to protect them.
going out only a few hours later...
those bLAsted birds had already destroyed what was hardly there!
i WiLL have my sunflowers...

and my bamboo plant has doubled in height...
am i supposed to trim it ever??
or do i just let it reach the ceiling?

i had to speak in church last Sunday.
it was good for me.

be the difference you wish to see in the world.

this touched me.

some of my favorite words to live by:

"if you judge people you don't have time to love them"
-mother theresa-

i was always taught that when i thought my life was hard.
if i was discouraged or depressed.
weighed down with problems
then i should do something for someone else.

without fail
everytime
it works.
i feel better and happy
:)

i am a strong believer that when this life is lived for others,
that is when we are TRULY happy
and life feels fulfilled.

you are often the answer to someone else's prayer.
when was the last time you thought of others' needs
instead of your own?

i've learned the gospel of Jesus Christ
and that LIVING IT is what this life is all about.
it's one thing to believe something...it's another it actually live it.
it's about L O V E
and us living and loving as our Savior would.

ask yourself this every day:
have i done any good in the world today?
have i helped anyone in need?
have i cheered up the sad?
or made someone feel glad?
if not,
 i have failed in deed.

walk the walk

purple skies.
hazel lights.
fireflies.
new horizons.
in the spring,
gray turns green.
hope once dead
is
brought to life.

shady tree.
shoes in hand,
with my bare feet in the sand.
spanish poems.
skipping stones.
the dusty road then takes me home.

people have told me
how to be happy
but i find
their remedy's e m p t y
these are my pearls,
God's treasures unfurled
mean more to this girl
more than
the world
to me.

photographs
from the past.
summer naptime
in the grass.
constellations in the sky
the northern lights will make you cry

grant me twenty thousand wishes.
cover me with lavish things.
but i believe in loaves and fishes
m i r a c l e s
and mustard seeds.

people have told me
how to be happy
but i find
their road
is empty
these are my pearls
God's treasure unfurled
me more to
this girl
more than
the world
to me.

when you know something.
you feel it
believe it
KNOW it,
.
.
.
then live it.

too many people these days give in
waver
follow the crowd
it's easier to always try and fit in.

i will stand
i will not fall
in a world that's weak
i will be strong
i'll be true
i will choose His way
i know what's right
and i will not change
in a world where so many will not
...i will.

some of you might recognize those doors and the signs above them.

or more recognizable...

mom and dad dropped me off.
we did the long road trip out to provo from atlanta 4 days before.
it gave me time to collect all my school stuff i'd left in "storage" at friends' homes
and say my goodbyes to all the ones i left at byu.
i was already set apart...so it was a little different.

my last "meal" that day before entering the mtc...
J-DAWGS
a provo delicacy.
if you've never had one...
i'm sorry.
best doggies ever!
connie and jared both worked there...
i ate PLENTY.
it was my last wish...

i got letters from these two lovely ladies this week!...
ILOVEMAIL!
Vasquez and Mijangos.
Two EXCELLENT excuses to visit Guatemala.

 and
i'm craving this view again...
"el yunque" in puerto rico...not to mention my colombian man sitting to the left. :)...

 other news:
Mom left today for her first ever cruise! cozumel, mexico. a girl trip.
though i wonder if she'll enjoy it, she can't seem to get over feeling like she's being selfish in going.
it amazes me how that woman never does anything for just herself.
i hope she can get over her guilt feelings and live it up for the week...after all...she will be there on her birthday. sept 19th...the big 6-0!!
so this leaves me home with dad for another week.
i'm not saying that in a bad way, just saying.

i get LDS thoughts emailed to me on M-W-F.
i enjoy a little spiritual uplift mid-workday hustle and bustle.
and i particularly liked today's:
"As an exceptional son or daughter of God, you are sorely needed. There is an urgent need for men and women who will stand for principles against the growing pressures to compromise those very principles. Men and women are required who will act nobly and courageously for what the Lord has defined as right, not for what is politically correct or socially acceptable. We need individuals who have the spiritual, righteous influence that will motivate others to enduring good."

institute class last night was SO good.
we studied/analyzed/discussed Gordon B Hinckley's life and teachings.
howie is the man.
i felt inspired in many ways. the gospel always does that.
i love it so much.
i've also been itching for a new book to read. a worthwhile one.
and you know what is sitting in my father's library?
Go Forward With Faith: Biography of Gordon B Hinckley...PERFECT.
done and done.
